Dodge Ram Bucks!

So... Guess who hit two Oklahoma Bucks last week, on the way home from speaking at a Wild Game Feed in Fairview, Oklahoma?  Yep!  I nailed a 10ptr and a 6ptr!

But... the good news is I’d been so busy this past year all through hunting season that we were actually two deer short on what we needed for meat to make it through the year.  And, both the Oklahoma State Trooper and the County Sheriff Deputy told me I could throw them in the back and take ‘em home!  But wait, there’s more!  And, I was also able to find both of busted antlers so I’ll be able to salvage a European Mount for each!

50 Day Genesis Challenge, Day 27

“Now then, please take your gear, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me;”.  Genesis 27:3

Though I’m not a big fan of this chapter of the Bible as a whole, this verse in particular is one of my favorite in all of Scripture.

For me, without question, some of my most intimate moments with God have been in the context of enjoying His Creation while hunting.  It is in these Sanctuaries of Alpine meadows, dark timber mountainsides, sage covered Sandhills, hardwood bottomlands, plum thicket prairies, Osage orange hedgerows, windswept plains, deep cut draws, and every other place I find myself outside and in pursuit of game, that I feel God’s presence the most.  These are the places where my heart breathes deeply, my head is cleared thoroughly, and my Soul itself is restored.  It is in these places where I personally and powerfully feel the Hand of God, as I am surrounded by His handiwork.

Thank You, LORD, for the time You give, and the times You speak to me, as You surround me with the irrefutable evidence of Your Existence in Your Creation.  Please continue to speak to me in these moments and places, where I take the time, and find the space, to call on Your Name.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

50 Day Genesis Challenge, Day 9

“Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant.”  Genesis 9:3

The hunter and fisherman in me truly loves this verse.  And, without question, as I look back over my life, the time that I have been given and spent in the outdoors, in the pursuit of these moving creatures (in the context of hunting and fishing) are some of the most positive, memorable, and life-giving experiences I have ever had.  And, to literally feed my family with the wild game I (we) have pursued and that God has provided (it’s literally what we eat every day)...  I just consider it to be a tremendous honor, privilege and a blessing.  And, theologically speaking, it is also a continuation of the fulfillment of the “Noahic Covenant” (Genesis 9:1-19).

Thank you Lord, for hunting and fishing, and for the time You spend and speak with us in and through Your Creation, as we experience and enjoy all of the bounty and blessings that go along with it.
